My Old Mother

Love another all you may
You have only a limited remit
To relieve their pain and suffering
And in the process
You take on some suffering yourself.
Even God, who is surely all-loving
And all-compassionate,
Is him(her)self seems not to be in a position
To relieve the sufferings in the world;
Perhaps his hands are tied
By our own unwillingness
To shed our ignorance
Continuing to identify as we do
With our body-mind complex.
